Learning Serenity

"God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference."

The Mazda is still in the shop being worked on. We are once again waiting for the mechanic to provide the insurance company with an estimate, and for the insurance company to rule on whether they will pay or not.

The movers in Saratoga cheerfully agreed with everything Ken and I told them... this box to storage, this one to the sea container... and then blissfully did whatever they felt like with the boxes. We have here in Australia the lampshade from a lamp that is permanently attached to the wall of the house. Ken did not receive his box of technical books that he keeps and uses at work.

Our lawn is half dead and the vegetable garden planting has been on hold for weeks because our irrigation stopped working almost a month ago. A call was promptly placed to our housing support center and then we waited. Before that, our driveway was being flooded by a plumbing problem. We had placed a call to the same helpful service center three weeks earlier. (The plumber finally came to make the repairs when he coincidentally drove by our house and saw the flood.) Today, the irrigation guy finally showed up and discovered that the plumber had completely turned off the main water valve that supplies the yard.

This morning, I carefully checked our Survival kit list to make sure that I had everything together and ready for pickup, scheduled a bit later. We had received severe admonishments, both in writing and in person, that the items were the property of the U.S.Government, and were to be returned in good condition and all accounted for. The young man who picked them up asked me I if I wanted to keep a plastic pitcher (which had actually come in very handy for refilling the Mazda radiator.) I said, well, sure, if that's OK. To which he cheerfully replied, "You can keep anything you want!"

"God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference."

  1. Yes, Bob is in the same boat. Two years of building a music curriculum and they dump him in a science classroom when he hasn't seen a science book in 7 years! Working a lot harder, making a lot less money, he's really struggling with serenity, would like to change, but has no wisdom. I empathize with you. Sorry things are out of sorts, but, hopefully, there is some solace in a roof over your head, food on the table and family who loves you. With all these experiences maybe there is a book to write??? BTW, we had Smith Pantry tuna tonight - what did you guys use all that tuna for? We have many cans left... Thank you!

  3. Most of the fabric made it but my main box of "good" stuff did not. But there's plenty here to play with. Now if only my cranky serger would cooperate...
