General Update

Life has been busy and interesting.

At home:

Ken and I are busy nesting now that our boxes are all unpacked. I still have stacks and piles of unsorted sewing and craft supplies in just about every room of the house, but progress is being slowly but steadily made to get them organized.

Both last Saturday and yesterday we spent running errands around town.

- Ken had some thin shelving cut to order at the local lumber store, which I then painted the edges of to match our teak shelves, which will be used for his CD collection.

- We bought some concrete blocks with which to make some crude shelving for our garden shed.

- Shade cloth and various hardware components will become a patio blind. Yesterday we sewed a 4 meter (approximately 12 foot) casing along the bottom to insert a wooden weighting strip and next weekend Ken will do something interesting with pulleys and cable.

- We purchased a second-hand break-down desk for our office. The one provided to us is too small for both of our computers, monitors and chairs. We sanded and oiled all the veneer surfaces, and hope to reassemble it soon. We brought one small monitor and purchased a larger one here which I plan to use for making digital art when the weather's too hot to venture out.

- We purchased a flatbed trailer full of steer manure and compost, dug it into the vegetable garden, and planted tomatoes, corn and basil. A passion fruit plant will be added too. Green beans will go in once we have a trellis to train them on... this is a future project.

At Work:

A system Ken had been working on for a few years was accepted into production operations last Friday ... a huge milestone! He now turns his attention to some new R&D he has been wanting to pursue for a long time.

My volunteer work of three hours a week at the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame converts on Monday to a paid position of fifteen hours a week. I enjoy the people I meet there, both the management as well as the tourists who come through and it's nice to have something useful to do outside my own little world, lest I become too self-centered. :-)

For Fun:

- Last night we went to see the Meryl Streep movie, Julie and Julia, which we both enjoyed. The smell of the popcorn as we entered the theater was just the same.

-Friday night we went out to dinner at a casual BYO Italian place, Casa Nostra. Delicious food. We brought our own bottle of wine which was also delicious.

- Last Sunday we visited a couple of scenic areas East of Alice, Jessie Gap and Emily Gap, both parts of a Nature Park. More of the gorgeous countryside around here with red rocks, white eucalyptus trees (called ghost gums), and blue, blue sky.

- Today we plan to head out to Standley Chasm (where I tried to go the morning I had the accident with the kangaroo.)

I promise to post some photos when I get my new monitor and desk set up.

  4. Good to see how things are going half way around the world. It looks like summer there - nothing like here!
