Ken and I spent a lot of time this weekend discussing various challenging moral, legal, and financial topics. We are fortunate to come together with very similar circumstances.
Neither of us has children.
Neither of us has any ongoing relationship with our first spouse.
We both own our own homes with reasonable mortgages.
We both have good educations and marketable skills.
We are within a couple years of being the same age.
We both have multiple siblings, all of whom lead successful independent lives of their own.
One difference is that I am blessed to have two healthy parents, while Ken has lost his mother and his father has advancing Alzheimers.
We used some material we found on the internet to discuss things such as:
- checking accounts, bills, budgets,
- purchase decisions,
- investment management styles,& risk tolerance,
- responsibilities to family,
- attitudes about debt and credit history,
- retirement objectives,
- household decisions
and so on.
I wasn't surprised to learn that we are very similar in most of our values, attitudes, beliefs, desires, goals since many of these things have come up more informally during the almost-a-year we've been together. We seem to have a very good thing going here. Most importantly, we can have an open dialogue and talk about whatever comes up.
Check this one off the list!

Glenda, I'm happy you have found so much joy! What an adventure you are going to have. I've just been wasting time on wikipedia--you're going to a thriving metropolis of almost 25,000 people! camel races! regattas of bottomless boats on sand rivers!???! Have you read Bill Bryson's book about Australia? The take away message was: lots and lots of dangerous creatures. Lisa.
